Tips
Look at rail passes
Trains and mountain lifts are the biggest cost. A Swiss Travel Pass or Half Fare Card can save a lot, but compare it with the trips you’ll actually take.
Check the weather each morning
Clouds can hide the peaks for a whole day. Watch the live webcams and swap days around so the high viewpoints fall on clear ones.
Season
Some lifts and higher trails only open from mid or late June, once the snow has gone. September is quieter and often clear.
Hiking gear
Wear proper shoes and carry a warm layer and rain jacket even in August. Trails are well marked with yellow signs that show walking times.
