Tips

Tap on with a card

Trains, buses, ferries and light rail all take contactless bank cards or an Opal card. The ferries are public transport and one of the best ways to see the harbor.

Swim between the flags

Ocean beaches can have strong rip currents. Swim only between the red and yellow flags where lifeguards are watching.

Sun and seasons

The sun is strong year-round, so wear sunscreen and a hat. Spring and autumn are mild; summer is hot and busy, and bushfire smoke or closures can affect the mountains, so check park alerts.

Pace the mountain walks

Trails that drop into the valleys mean steep stairs back up. Start with the clifftop walks and bring water and a warm layer.
